︎ Interactive sound installation
'concentrate' (2022) is a sound installation exploring the idea of "imaginary space sound." Unlike my usual process, where the music I connect with inspires my visual art, this piece flips that approach. Here, I create a sound piece that reflects the spaces and fields in my paintings, imagining how these worlds might sound if they existed in nature.
The installation is rooted in the atmosphere of nighttime—a time that fuels my creativity and is when I do most of my work. My practice often involves listening to electronic and experimental music, which has shaped the ambient, abstract qualities of my art. This soundtrack, played through a soundbar, has become a constant presence in my process, influencing how I approach both sound and space.
At the heart of the installation is a transparent sculpture hanging from the ceiling. It’s made from a mix of materials like epoxy resin, white rope, sugar, salt, metal parts, Polaroid film, thin wires, white beans, condoms, needles, nails, broken jewelry, and gum. These materials come together to form a structure that feels both intricate and raw, inviting viewers to move around it and explore its textures and layers.
The sculpture is paired with a looping sound piece played through speakers. The sound adds a sense of rhythm and repetition, capturing the themes of transparency and consciousness that run through the work. Together, the visual and auditory elements create an immersive experience, inviting viewers to step into an imagined space where sound and form echo the patterns of my creative mind.
