beyond control, 2023
︎ interactive installation | sensory experience
'beyond control' (2023) is an interactive experience inspired by my nightly ritual of taking a birth control pill at 9:30 PM. Over time, the pill package has become more than just a tool for medication—it’s turned into a calendar, marking the passage of time. Each pill represents a day, and as the package empties, the pill itself becomes a tactile symbol of the day’s end and a reminder that time is always moving forward.
This project delves into the layers of meaning behind this repetitive act, tracing the emotional shift from the initial excitement of starting something new to the eventual numbness that comes with unchanging routines. It’s not just about the act of taking a pill but serves as a reflection on life’s rhythms, our quiet pacts with time, and the unnoticed dependencies that form in the process.
'beyond control' (2023) invites participants to consider their own relationships with medications and the rituals that shape their existence. By focusing on this seemingly mundane habit, the work highlights the profound implications of routine and how it silently influences our lives.
